10 Fashion Mistakes That Are Ageing You – How To Style

I’m not one to highlight fashion mistakes because I really do believe that fashion should be fun and of course it’s a great way to truly express who we are. But there are some common mistakes that will always make us look older than we actually are. I’ve just turned 52 and while I don’t want to look like I’m in my 30s – I also don’t want to look too mature either. I suppose you could say I just want to look like like a more youthful version of a 52-year-old – without looking young and silly – if that makes sense.

So if you want to overhaul your style for the better and stay looking youthful then this video is for you.

By the way I’d love to hear what fashion faux pas make us look older in the comments below.

Thanks for watching.

    you look wow

  2. Karla Ristow on August 29, 2021 at 10:45 pm

Your advice is wonderful, your pics of models would be so much better if they were the audience age viewing the video

  3. Dora Eugenia Gasteazoro on August 29, 2021 at 10:46 pm

Good advice, thank you! I would have appreciated more examples of how to avoid these mistakes. Some of them didn’t offer any suggestions on how to apply them. Perhaps you could do a follow up?

  4. Sigourney Di Blasi on August 29, 2021 at 10:47 pm

Fashion isn’t about self- expression, but about branding yourself. You dress as you want to be perceived, or else you’ll have a hard time giving the impression you want to give.

  5. Cheryl-Ann on August 29, 2021 at 10:48 pm

Thank you for your wonderful video I hope you don’t mind I’ve shared it to my Pinterest board ‘Gorgeous Old Gals’ which is advice for women from 40 all the way to 90 +as we ‘maturing’ beauties need all the help we can get right?
Thank you for such wonderful content!💕

Would have helped to be more clear and give good examples..I quit watching because it just became too confusing what to do and not to do

  7. Bonochi Bear on August 29, 2021 at 10:49 pm

Please show examples of what you mean for tip 1.

Let’s talk realistically .., models you show are size 2

  10. Suzi Hazlove on August 29, 2021 at 10:50 pm

    Ty for your tips.
    Now here’s one.
Strong masculine brows like yours? . With your age and haircolor.? That shadow is so wrong. A brighter shadow peach or none.
And on camera a flat head doesn’t look soft and flattering on aging women.
And I think you look matronly with black. You need color or white.
Those are just my observations. Ty

  11. Alice W on August 29, 2021 at 10:50 pm

I fine this very contradicted, "avoid all black" (she’s sitting in an all black outfit…) but don’t fall for color trends. So should we all over fifty just wear beige?..Zzzzzz I actually think the right color to your face works magic, wheter its a trend or not, who gives the sh.. I do understand what she means by not buying the total concept for a trend, but really, who does that being over fifty? I would also like to add some tips for hairstyles when a bit older, having your hair dyed too dark is aging, also having too long hair, especially when keeping it loose is for sure not flattering and aging..

  12. hapyywithit on August 29, 2021 at 10:51 pm

i think they all look really good in the pictures, i think it depends how you style and cary them

  13. Jill Kent on August 29, 2021 at 10:51 pm

Who is that funky spunky old girl you keep showing?

  14. Beate Reese on August 29, 2021 at 10:52 pm

A little late: Happy Birthday. Good Luck.🍀

  15. Alva Shoemaker on August 29, 2021 at 10:53 pm

INTERESTING ideas; women "of a certain age" often don’t care IF things are in style or not, which is RIGHT ON!!

  16. Gr X on August 29, 2021 at 10:53 pm

Don’t wear black if mature….wears black in the video with black hair. 😳😳😳😳

  17. Veruca Salt on August 29, 2021 at 10:55 pm

Some of those pictures of models wearing the "in" styles were actually hideous.
I once heard "dress for the body you have now". Dress for your age, body type, body size, comfort and what makes you feel good about yourself…. that’s different for everybody.

  18. Angelica Zuni on August 29, 2021 at 10:55 pm

your sponsor has nothing to do with the video subject???

  19. Isabelle Delacroix on August 29, 2021 at 10:55 pm

    * don’t wear black * …is wearing black 😂 girls , wear what you want , enjoy life , be happy to reach a certain age , don’t care what the world and people think … you are unique, like your way you dress …. Greetings from Paris,France and a fashion designer , which gets inspired from normal creative crazy people with a personal style on the streets of France , here it’s where’s fashion and trends are made . Be colourful, sparkling, smiling … enjoy

  20. pauline hooper on August 29, 2021 at 10:57 pm

Ok but you haven’t really shown ideas, example etc, so not really helpful

  21. Rose Schwiebert on August 29, 2021 at 10:57 pm

Thank you for the informative video. What do you think about the saying, "If you were old enough to wear it the first time, you’re too old to wear it again" – when it comes to fashion ? Did CoCo Chanel say that? I’m 52 also, and like you I don’t want to dress like my 28 year old daughter, but I also don’t want to dress like my 81 year old mom either. It’s hard , its like walking a tightrope in some regard.

  22. Nees Argon on August 29, 2021 at 10:58 pm

There’s only one rule . . . Wear what makes you happy!

  23. Athanasia TZR on August 29, 2021 at 10:58 pm

Some of these suggestions are right but do you think you look youthful …perhaps a change of haircut with bangs or a layered one and a colourful t shirt are good ideas

  24. Brenda Drew on August 29, 2021 at 10:59 pm

Great tips! I’m almost 71 and have always been interested in fashion since I studied it at a fashion/art school in NYC and was a fashion illustrator there in the late 1960s/70s! You’re right about accessories and nothing looks worst than old worn belts, purses and shoes so those should be replaced when need be. I hate sneakers with skirts and dresses though and think one should wear more appropriate shoes for those. While I was raising my three daughters in the 80s I wouldn’t let them wear their sneakers with dresses/party dresses and made sure they had black patent leather Mary Janes with white tights. I was lucky I could pass down many of their clothing from daughter to daughter which saved a lot of money though they had some new fashions as well. Thanks for sharing tips…love your videos!

I’m 25 and already I got a comment by a slightly younger coworker saying my clothes make me look older. I wear a lot of vintage. I dont know how to proceed.

  26. Karen Jones on August 29, 2021 at 11:00 pm

Examples were all young women. It was hard to tell the Do examples from the Don’t examples. Maybe I’m just not fashion savvy enough. Also, don’t wear all black? Look at your video. I had hopes for this video.

  27. Sharralynn Pierce Woolworth on August 29, 2021 at 11:01 pm

    Less talk! Please!

  28. it's me, Georgina on August 29, 2021 at 11:03 pm

I am 55,, I agree totally only with one of your points — and that is the long frumpy skirt, especially floral patterns… black is THE BEST COLOUR of all, it only needs a scarf

  29. jacqueline schael on August 29, 2021 at 11:08 pm

Black is mostly unforgiving to older women especially if the whole outfit is black.

  33. Terry Thomas on August 29, 2021 at 11:10 pm

I would like to say that I see a lot of women who hit there 40s, 50s and 60s get to a point that they don’t care about taking care of themselves (becuz of marriage, life, kids, etc…). They stop trying to look there best and it shows…you don’t need to look like a fashion model but take pride in your appearance. Most women did in their 20s and 30s so why stop? When you stop caring, it ages you and makes you look old…I see it all the type and it’s really sad. I’m in my early 40s and I’ve decided I’m going to be that hot 50-60 something woman that you see walking down the street and you think “wow”, she looks amazing”. Ladies, regardless of trend, don’t stop caring about yourself and make an effort to look amazing everyday…you deserve it

I have few looks now I use. Simple, fancy bracelets and rings, funky shoes, leather, red lipstick and black! Rock, elegant and sexy! It always works. Never flat sandals, knee length shorts and too much make up!

  35. My Kingdom For a Horse on August 29, 2021 at 11:21 pm

I turned 60 this past summer and I still rock hippie looks and dont give a hoot if it fits with "mature" fashion or not;-)

Badly dressed old women— comes across as dim witted and irrelevant. Takes brains to look sharp and be well groomed.

  40. Reshu Karanjit on August 29, 2021 at 11:24 pm

I think being fashionable is more to wear comfortable clothes rather than wearing trendy clothes

  41. Ronaye Michel Training on August 29, 2021 at 11:25 pm

Why so many photo examples of young, very thin girls? More examples of everyday women…perhaps older too would have been more relevant and helpful.

  42. Katherine Margeson on August 29, 2021 at 11:27 pm

I like a just below the knee skirt. A bias cut skirt with zero pleats looks chic and helps to hide lumps and bumps.
I would add gathered skirts to this list

  43. Mona Kinnel on August 29, 2021 at 11:29 pm

Black clothing….guilty as charged! I have been working over the past year to make some changes and expand my color palette (especially since my good friend threatened to come over and burn all my black clothing!!!) So….I have found by appropriately combining my black pieces with patterns, prints, or color and accessorizing some of my outfits with fun and flattering items, my black items take on a whole new personality. I am happy….no more arson threats!

  44. Elizabeth Monacelli on August 29, 2021 at 11:31 pm

Not to offend, but your “look” in the introduction appears to be an oxymoron with the title of this video.
Having hair slicked down, pasted to the head and parted in the middle, I understand is a hairstyle that will age you.

  45. G on August 29, 2021 at 11:31 pm

Very nice. Although examples are for more fair skin. Please do for brown skin too specially shorter women with a tummy
