Thanks so much for posting this video! It was a huge help when I put the buckles on my shoes, and I will definitely let my husband see this video when it comes time to purchase his shoes and buckles. Best wishes!

A wonderful and informative window into the world of 18th century shoes. This is very helpful, and Mr. Townsend is an excellent teacher — clearly, it runs in the family. 🙂

That was very interesting. It makes me laugh every time I hear people talk about the good olds being more simple… it was a lot of work.

I have used this video twice to get the buckles back on after the shoes went to the cobbler. It is very easy to follow!

Of all the things to find on the internet, I found this… and was intrigued!

Shoe laces seem so inelegant. These look and seem so much neater!

I’m a fairly new subscriber and have wondered about history—-specifically the history of your company! I see that the older gentleman here is "Jas. Townsend" and assume that the familiar face and voice heard here (Jonathan) is the "son". I’d love to hear more about how your company came to be. Thanks so much for all your terrific videos! I’ve always been fascinated by historical cooking, especially that of "the common man (woman!)". I feel closer to all my 18th century great grandmothers for having watched your videos and experimented with your recipes.

I have some shoes but the straps are too long. What is the best method to trim the leather to size?

  26. CMJ on October 27, 2021 at 11:22 am

Afraid to do it and get it wrong :(…. Do you think a regular shoe cobbler can do this for me?

  27. Cyrene the Cat on October 27, 2021 at 11:23 am

Really interesting. Thank you. I can see why cobbling was such an important profession. We sure take shoes for granted now, but imagine the work involved back then. I bet most people only had ONE pair. I think I would die! 🙂

Just got as pair of cycle boots and I wanted a buckle added to the front instead of a strap. THANK YOU for the walk through as well as all the details in the steps
