I just got a belt from ll Bean that said it was “made with full grain leather” on the website but when I got it, it said “genuine full grain leather” and felt kinda plasticky. What do you think it is?

  2. Donald Oliver on August 17, 2021 at 10:05 pm

I would like see red wing belt to see how they compare to other belts quality

Amazon has a bunch of "full grain leather" belts for 20 bucks. Any chance you cut one of those up

What ever happened to all the quality Mexican leather belts that you could buy all over America back in the 70’s & 80’s ? You know the type you could put your Rush belt buckle on . At the same time women are flipping out over purses but their junk compared to what my Mom bought as a cheap souvineer in Mexico years ago .

Just bought a Rose Anvil belt. I got several good years out of the leather (yes, actual leather) Walmart belt that I bought when I was on travel and needed one fast, but it’s time to trade up now that it is about to break. So I bought one from Rose Anvil to help support the channel (and to hold up my pants). I figure the price is really just the tuition for all the learning I have received from the channel. I have to say, though, that it pains me to see quality leather products, especially handmade ones, unceremoniously cut apart. Cheap stuff, not so much, it deserves it.

Leather is good material for shoes. For belts – synthetics only.

  7. bahamu on August 17, 2021 at 10:12 pm

Would love to see you tear apart a Hermes belt.

  8. jody fresnack on August 17, 2021 at 10:13 pm

I bought myself 4 new belts and a local department store. They seemed like heavy solid leather belts. every one of them cracked and split open right where I bend the belt to pull it tight to insert the pin in the hole. They all broke within the first month..
I do not trust even department store belts anymore. So I am shopping on eBay and in garage sales/Flea markets for used belts. If they still look good when they’re old, they’re probably good like movies. If a movie is good it’s probably old,..If a movie is new, it’s probably not good, just like belts

  9. dave w on August 17, 2021 at 10:13 pm

cant you just look in the holes to see ?

I never understood why leather belts cost 100$ like Allen Edmond or red wing belts but now I know, thanks,

Hey, I was wondering about the inexpensive Amazon Belts, I guess if you used them on a limited basis they could work, I only wear a suit maybe 6 times a year so a cheap belt would work for that. Glad you made the video…

  14. D. Velez on August 17, 2021 at 10:15 pm

    Wish you sold braided belts

  15. Some guy who does not get the joke on August 17, 2021 at 10:15 pm

I had a reversible belt like that one. The pivoting buckle head failed before the "leather" had a chance to.

  16. ButteredBiskits on August 17, 2021 at 10:17 pm

Doesnt he know amazon cant afford good leather?

  17. Joe Buffaloe on August 17, 2021 at 10:18 pm

Wow. I thought "genuine leather" was leather all the way through, even if it was bad leather.

  18. __ on August 17, 2021 at 10:18 pm

Honestly I have no idea why people buy cheap belts. If you use them they just fall apart, meaning you have to keep buying them every 1-2 years. Whereas if you just save for a quality full grain leather belt it’ll last you decades, therefore saving you money.

I’ll take the word of others here as to what that garbage stuffing actually is. I call it "chinesium". They use it for everything – and I mean _everything._ Sometime, just for kicks, google "Chinese bridge collapse" or "Chinese building collapse." Try to see some closeups of the interior of their building material. Yep, same stuff.

  20. joe guest on August 17, 2021 at 10:19 pm

I bought a 10 dollar double hole, double prong work belt. My 25 dollar industry work belt lasted 2 years with signs of serious wear. I afraid it won’t hold up. If it breaks I have back up belt.

Take apart a designer belt. Like Ferragamo or Prada or LV

  24. Zell on August 17, 2021 at 10:24 pm

I had Nautica one that was like this two belts. Felt apart in a few months. Both two from Perry Ellis that say "full grain cowhide" at back and I have both still always for 7 years or so.

  25. themori3 on August 17, 2021 at 10:24 pm

    Yes, tear more stuff up.😀♥️

  26. Chris Webb on August 17, 2021 at 10:26 pm

    It’s carpet padding lol

  27. you0nlylivetwice on August 17, 2021 at 10:28 pm

If you cut a small section from the buckle side you could screw it back to the buckle to reuse, that way it’s not damaged and it’s only a shorter length belt.

I have no clue why I was recommended a video about dissecting a leather belt from Amazon but okay YouTube

Man i bought a leather hugo boss for 11 bucks and it’s preety good

  30. Solar DNA on August 17, 2021 at 10:31 pm

I won’t buy a leather belt unless its full grain. I bought a brand on Amazon called NPET that’s full grain leather for like $12 that I think was made in China but actually very decent quality. I say that because I’ve worn it to work every day for almost three years hanging impact drills and tools and such on it and other than the snaps I recently just simply chose to replace with Chicago screws is still going strong. I guess there’s not alot of manufacturing differences there can be in cutting a single strip of cow hide into the shape of a belt. I liked it so much I ordered a second in a different color a few months ago.

  31. Jason Voorhees The Slump God on August 17, 2021 at 10:33 pm

difference is, you people see belts for $95 USD. You would expect full grain leather from paying $95 for a leather belt. Paying $10USD for a belt this is what you would expect. Disliked

  38. B L on August 17, 2021 at 10:38 pm

But then again, with some shopping around you don’t necessarily have to spend a lot to get a decent full grain leather belt, I think I paid somewhere in the neighbourhood of 25€ for my ~10oz cow leather belt.

  40. Mitch Compton on August 17, 2021 at 10:40 pm

If a product says genuine leather. That is what it is. It’s a misleading term but if you know what it means, you’ll know genuine leather is one of the worst kinds of leather you can buy, alternatively, the best kinds of leather you can buy will be full grain leather and secondly, top grain. These kinds of leather are taken from the top layers of the hide where genuine is the much less durable lower section. Now don’t be fooled by a product being marketed as “genuine leather” now you’ll know better.

I purchased two 20$ leather belts from amazon.com, and one of them was pretty bad quality. The other, however, was from a brand called Keecow. I cut the belt to shorten it, and when doing so, I looked at the leather grain. I was really pleasantly surprised with the thick cut and good quality. I believe its a chrome tanned leather, but I highly recommend you take a look at it to see if cheap leather belts really are so "cheap"
